Systems of Expression: From Pixels to Bottle Caps

Nuit Blanche

A collaborative exhibition exploring urban ecology through interactive and visual art, reflecting on sustainability, environmental connection and the role of AI in creative dialogue.

About the project

“Systems of Expression: From Pixels to Bottle Caps” features two primary works — one outside the gallery and one inside — within a broader group exhibition. Outside, a large-scale projection presents a sound and visual dialogue between artist Julia Shure and artificial intelligence. Inspired by a 2nd-century mask of Dionysus, the project unfolds as a visual conversation — AI-generated images and hand-painted watercolours responding to one another. Inside the gallery, an interactive installation by The Flying Bushman (Boloebi Charles Okah) invites visitors to co-create a collaborative wall piece using bottle caps, exploring the relationship between living and non-living systems. Surrounding these two central works, paintings, prints, photographs, eco-art and short documentaries by other participating artists reflect sustainable practices and our shared ecological footprint.
